Microscope projectThe first project we did in the second semester was the Microscope project. This was a group project we did with Renee and Phil. Me and my partner Grace used the instructions we were given to build the project. We used materials like Plexiglas, lenses, bolts and plywood. This was a great way to learn more about our surroundings. We had six weeks to build the microscope and take pictures. At the end of this project we had to make a poster with a description of how we built the microscope and why we chose the pictures. Grace and I took picture of things like Shells and feathers. For my final product I chose to showcase the pictures of the feathers because during this project I learned that a strand of a feather under a microscope shows that it looks like a whole feather because feathers are fractal. Scientific Show Case For the scientific showcase we had to find something new that was happening in the science world. I was interested in cardiology so I searched for a new advancement in cardiology to write an article about. Diastolic Heart Failure(DHF) occurs when the heart muscle becomes stiff and doesn't relax enough to allow blood to flow from the lung into the heart. Doctors from Ohio State University created a device that could treat DHF. The more I got to know about it I was able to understand the discomfort people affected by DHF went through. In the end I learned about a new advancement on a topic that interests me. Comic Book Panels The main focus in our physics class for the second semester was making our own comic book. For three weeks we worked on creating a comic book from the science fiction story we wrote in humanities class. We had the time to make 20 panels from our story. This was a chance for us to choose an interesting part from our story and interpret it into a comic book panel that fits our imagination. What I enjoyed the most about this project was the process we went through to complete our comic book. I wasn't excited about this project till the end because I didn't understand the purpose of the project. Looking at the final product I got to reflect on what we accomplished and understood that this was a way for us to show our creativity and learn more about science. It was also a lesson on a different kind of writing.
